Eva Dean founded Eva Dean Dance (EDD) in 1985. Throughout the years, her choreography has received critical acclaim and accolades from audiences, presenters, and students. Dean is recognized as a consummate professional creating work using multiple elements to bring her choreographic vision to life. Dean embraces an intuitive process while developing choreography through an experimental approach, drawing on the dancer’s artistry and improvisational skills. Dean is known for inventive use of props, incorporating site-specific and architectural elements, experiential lighting, and ambient sound scores. Collaboration is an integral part of Dean’s process while working closely with guest artists such as musicians, puppet masters, lighting, set, and costume designers to create a visually rich body of work. As a result, her lifetime body of work is diverse and gives viewers enduring memories.

Locally grown in Brooklyn, Ms. Dean’s company has performed in many of New York City's finest venues including The Museum of Modern Art, Fringe/NYC, Danspace at St. Mark’s Church, The Dance Series at 14th Street Y, and the Brooklyn Museum. Notable site-specific productions include Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Park, and a turn of the 20th century barn in Sheffield, MA.  EDD has also performed nationally in such venues as Carol Autorino Center in Hartford, CT and First Night Boston. International performances include Dubai United Arab Emeritus, Amsterdam Fringe Festival where it received "Best of Fringe New York," Recklinghausen Fringe in Germany, and the Prague Fringe Festival. Dean has set EDD repertoire on college and conservatory students, created new dances for Brooklyn Public school students, and taught master choreography workshops as a guest artist at many institutions, including The Museum of Modern Art, Hampshire College in Massachusetts, Bennington College in Vermont, Hartford Conservatory Dance in Connecticut, k77 Studio in Berlin, and Alice Teirstein's "Young Dancemakers" in New York City.

Eva Dean Dance is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.  Throughout the years EDD has received support from various foundations and agencies including Harkness Foundation for Dance, Mertz Gilmore Foundation, conEdison, among others.  EDD has received support from The Department of Public Affairs American Embassies in the Netherlands and the Czech Repbulic to perform internationally.

Dean founded Union Street Dance (USD) in 2000 and is the Artistic Director from its inception to present day.  USD is located in Brooklyn, New York.  USD provides subsidized rehearsal space to over 100 choreographers annually.  The subsidized dance rehearsal rental program at USD is made possible in part with public funds from New York State Council on the Arts, Mertz Gilmore Foundation and New York City 's Department of Cultural Affairs. Recently, USD created the Joan Duddy Space Grant, in honor of former board member Joan Duddy, which provides free rehearsal space to dancers annually.

Dean is currently on the transitional Board of Directors for the Present Company.  Recently, Dean served on FringeNYC’s dance adjudication and Dance/NYC’s host committee for Brooklyn For Dance.  In past years, Dean was a member of the Dance Committee of the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center and The Brooklyn Dance Consortium. Currently, Ms. Dean is working on a major new work, entitled LIQUID SILVER, set to premiere in 2017. Dean is a Hampshire College Alum and her choreographic intent embodies the experimental approach instilled in her formative years.
